WIPP - Businesses Against Radioactive Transport (BART)

Over 900 shipments of radioactive waste pass through Santa Fe on St. Francis Drive every year.

If WIPP goes forward, the number of waste shipments will increase immediately. An accident involving any of these shipments could make Santa Fe headline news and a national pariah for years to come.

In the past, businesses in Santa Fe have expressed concern over adverse economic effects from the transport of radioactive waste along congested Santa Fe streets. In response to these concerns, CCNS has instituted a nuclear waste transportation safety initiative called Business Against Radioactive Transport (BART). BART members are kept informed of the latest news on progress toward a four-lane bypass for WIPP. For more information on how your business can join BART, call CCNS at 986-1973.
