Joan,

It is apparent from your message that you have a deep emotional investment in these issues, and while it is good to be motivated, it seems that you are quite determined to thwart any effort, even a positive one, to deal effectively with radioactive and hazardous wastes.

Step back for a minute, and put yourself in the shoes of the waste management professional. This person has a very difficult (nigh impossible) job. The waste manager is faced with a variety of nasties produced by the overconsuming activities of our society. And yet, that same society is not willing to take responsibility for producing the junk. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

My point is that instead of hammering the hazardous waste folks unilaterally (there are of course those who deserve to be bashed) we should all be working towards REDUCING THE PRODUCTION OF HAZARDOUS AND RADIOACTIVE WASTES. This means drive less, buy less packaging, avoid consuming superfluous products like cosmetics, and in general live a little closer to the bottom of the consumer chain.

What we need for waste management is productive and workable solutions, not mindless resistance.
